How to be a citizen of Turkey! If you live in Turkey you can apply via immigration authority office that is located in the governorate you live in. But if you live abroad, you will need to apply via a consulate.
Who can get Turkish citizenship?
- Foreigners who are married with a Turkish citizen can be Turkish as well after 3 years of marriage.
- The child who is born to one or both Turkish parents in Turkey or outside Turkey has the right to get citizenship at once. This child is a Turkish citizen as from birth.
- Residence Permit holders and Property owners
The residence permit holders and property owners must have lived in Turkey for at least 5 years, with a total interruption of less than six months. Also, they must be able to speak Turkish at a basic level. According to laws, there is no minimum value for the property.
- By investment in Turkey
With the decree published on 19.09.2018 some regulations regarding the transition of foreigners to Turkish citizenship changed. Turkish citizenship will be given directly to foreigners who buy at least 250.000 USD real estate in Turkey ordeposited at least 500.000 USD in a Turkish bank account in Turkey.
Both transactions will need to stay in place for three years.

- Adult foreigner who stayed in Turkey without interruption for 5 years and who has the ability to support himself can apply for Turkish Citizenship with the decision of a Competent Authority provided that they confirm that; they have decided to settle in Turkey, theır physical and mental health must be sound and must have no criminal record, are able to speak Turkish efficiently, have an income or job to make a living for themselves, can make a valuable contribution to Turkish culture and society and do not constitute a drawback in terms of National Security and public order.
